I'm 18 today. I don't know how I feel about it, since I've already got piercings and tats, I have David so I don't need porn, and I don't smoke. I can vote now, which is pretty cool.I no longer have any obligation to my parents or school, but I'm still going to go. I only have six months left, and I'm going to college to make something of myself. I've taken up singing, and discovered I'm pretty good. I'm in a band, Madison is bass, and her boyfriend plays drums. This other guy, Drew, plays lead guitar. No gigs yet, but Battle of the Bands is coming up in a few months and no way are we missing that. We don't have a name yet e

When Jess told me about her previous life, it made me grateful for my own. my parents...they didn't drink. They weren't violent or abusive, and they supported my art. I got into California College of Art, or at least I had applied. I wouldn't know for a few more weeks. Madison wanted to know why I ran away from my real family and found another one here. I haven't known her that long, but I know I can trust her. I told her how my moth drank like a fish and my father was gone all the time. They never cared about anything I did except my grades. If they were less than acceptable I got screamed at, and berated. I always hoped for the moment one of them would pass out. My mother even showed up to parent conferences drunk one time. I don't even know why she went, although I knew she had a thing for my English teacher. Poor Mr. Lewis, he never returned her affections, and she took that out on me.

This living on my own thing is great, I have everything I need right here. A job, a place to live, great people, and of course Jess. I worry though, because we're so young that this will affect us emotionally when we get older. Jess said I was being silly and promptly changed the subject.
She's probably right though, everything I love about her has intensified in these last few months. Her smile, her laugh, because I know that here, she is truly happy. No more up and down days, she even threw away her depressing medicine. She's come so far, and I would hate for it to all break apart.
